Marks and Spencer has just released a winter-ready coat that’s got shoppers buzzing with its snug composition and chic appearance. The Textured Duffle Coat from the M&S Collection is priced at £89 and offers a unique twist on the classic duffle design, featuring a boucle fleece-style finish for added warmth.
Available in sizes 6 to 22 (size 24 is sold out online), this ivory-hued coat is designed to be slightly oversized, perfect for layering over chunky knits, and boasts a mid-thigh length. The coat’s exterior matches the interior’s softness and comfort, while the high neck – secured by a button – and hood provide some weather resistance.
However, due to its fabric, it’s not entirely waterproof and is best suited for drier conditions. The coat is secured first by a zip and then by several traditional toggles, and comes with two side pockets (unusually, they’re vertical rather than diagonal, reducing the chance of losing your essentials).

Naturally, being ivory, maintaining its cleanliness is crucial—it’d be a pity to spoil it with a few specks of dirt. But as it’s made from polyester, you might be able to toss it in the washing machine—though do check the label first.
According to the M&S website, it’s proving popular with customers, with over 31 sold online in the last 48 hours alone, reports Devon Live. Customers who’ve already got their hands on this snug coat can’t stop singing its praises online, with one delighted customer saying: “Saw this in store then ordered it online. It’s a beautiful coat and looks far more expensive than it is.
They continued: “It has a lovely soft inner and looks really flattering on. The nicest coat I’ve seen for a long time.
“Be great for the cold weather. Normally size 8/10, and the 8 fit just right, the 10 was too big on the shoulders.”
Another admirer mentioned: “This caught my eye in the store. I thought it looked dressy while being casual. It’s quite warm,” but did admit it felt ‘heavy’.
A four-star review added its bit saying: “It is a lovely design and would keep you nice and warm. However, I felt it was too heavy and bulky for me and it didn’t feel comfortable. I tried the size 10 and 12 and both swamped me.”
Sharing her own experience, writer Eve Rowlands said: Having tried this on in the shop myself – after which I couldn’t stop thinking about it – the coat is as cosy and warm as the reviews say and is made even more so with the high neck and hood.
“It feels like you’re being wrapped in a thick blanket that you can acceptably wear outside. It’s certainly on my Christmas list.”
If you prefer a shorter style, M&S’ Wool Blend Hooded Short Duffle Coat has a similar hood and fastening but comes to the hips instead, priced at £69. Alternatively, if you’re after something with more of a beige hue, Next’s Ecru Cream Borg Duggle Fleece Jacket comes complete with toggle fastening as well as black piping for added style.
