M&S are known for their iconic Colin and Connie the Caterpillar cakes, and now there’s a new limited-edition flavour on the shelves – and fans are so excited to try it
The iconic M&S caterpillar cakes are now available in a brand-new flavour. Colin the Caterpillar has long been a legendary figure for M&S shoppers, with the chocolate roll cake making many birthdays magical since he first appeared on shelves back in 1990. In 2016, Colin got himself a girlfriend when M&S released Connie the Caterpillar, and the two characters even got “married” in 2017.
Connie has undergone several makeovers since her release, including a special Mother’s Day version that put a pink crown on her head, and a bridal version with a lace veil named Connie the Bride. But now, social media users have spotted a brand new Connie in some M&S stores – and she’s taken on a delicious new flavour.
In a Facebook post shared by New Foods UK, it was revealed that M&S shoppers can now buy a pack of Connie the Caterpillar mini rolls with a unique twist.
The white chocolate face on the roll features a pink superhero mask, and instead of being filled with the usual white buttercream, these limited-edition hero-themed cakes are filled with raspberry buttercream.
The packaging for the new cakes states they are: “Chocolate sponge mini rolls filled with raspberry and white chocolate buttercream, smothered in milk chocolate and covered with sugar sprinkles.”
Commenters on the Facebook post expressed their excitement over the limited-edition flavour, as many of them tagged loved ones and urged them to head to their local M&S to snap up some of the cakes immediately.
One person tagged a family member and said: “Oh my god, let’s go and get some!”
Another said: “Looks like an M&S snack trip is needed again soon.”
Someone else couldn’t quite believe the delicious new flavour was real, as they asked: “Is this AI?”
The raspberry cakes are definitely real, and they’re listed on the M&S website as being a limited-edition flavour to celebrate Mother’s Day this year, which falls on March 15.
The description on the website states: “Show Mum how much she means to you this Mother’s Day with our My Hero Connie the Caterpillar Chocolate Sponge Mini Rolls.
“Each roll is filled with raspberry-flavoured white chocolate buttercream and smothered in rich milk chocolate, then finished with a sprinkle of sugary decorations and a charming white chocolate face.”
You get five Connie the Caterpillar cakes in a pack, and while they are suitable for vegetarians, they are not suitable for those with nut allergies. The product also contains eggs, gluten, soya, milk, and wheat, so it is unsuitable for anyone with corresponding allergies or intolerances.
The M&S website does not indicate how much the cakes cost, but you can use their store locator to find out whether your local shop has any in stock.
