Fans of Toblerone can currently buy a huge 4.5kg bar of it in supermarket Morrisons. However, shoppers have been left baffled after they spotted the price of the huge bar
We all like a bit of chocolate now and again, however lovers of popular Swiss chocolate brand Toblerone can get more than a mouthful with one product currently being sold. Fans of the chocolate, which is known for its honey and almond recipe and distinct triangular shape, can currently buy a huge 4.5kg bar of it in supermarket Morrisons – however it doesn’t come cheap.
Signage taken from in-store shows that the staggering Toberlone bar was on-sale for £80. However, shoppers can currently get it for £50 if they use the shop’s More Card. The deal was spotted by popular food account New Foods UK which shared a photo of the chocolate bar on-sale as they wrote: “Huge 4.5kg Toblerone spotted at Morrisons.”
The post quickly began racking up comments, as many were gobsmacked over the price tag.
One person exclaimed: “It was £80? Where’s the Panorama documentary?”
While another added: “What in the cost of living crisis is going on here? 50 English pounds, lord have mercy.”
A third chimed in: “It’s still at least £40 overpriced, even with the reduction!”
As a fourth simply probed: “£50?!”
Despite shock over the price, some people were still planning to buy it, as one person wrote: “That looks amazing. Definitely need to add this to my shopping list.”
A representative for Morrisons said: “Our 4.5kg Toblerone offers customers a fun way to celebrate Father figures this bank holiday. For customers wishing to spend less we also have a 340g Toblerone for £7, or £4.75 with a More Card.
“Weighing a whopping 4.5kg, the supersized Swiss chocolate bar is heavier than the average newborn baby and packs in more than 12 times the chocolate of a regular Toblerone – it is around £35 cheaper than similar oversized Toblerone’s sold elsewhere. |
Morrisons appears to be the only UK supermarket stocking the huge 4.5kg bar in-store at the moment.
However, those who want to get their hands on the 80cm-long bar can have it delivered directly to their door from Amazon UK, Cadbury Gifts Direct and Wholesale Sweets/Hancocks.
Amazon regularly keeps the giant bar in stock, often with it listed around £72.79.
Meanwhile, Cadbury Gifts Direct has the official giant bar via its website, typically priced at £85.
Confectionery wholesalers Wholesale Sweets/Hancocks sell it to the public or businesses for around £82.79 – £95.29.
Morrisons initially launched the massive bar as a viral headline-grabber for its Black Friday 2017 shopping event.
While it originally started as a rare novelty gimmick, its massive popularity turned it into a staple seasonal product.
Instead of being on supermarket shelves year-round, the brand now specifically rolls it out as a limited-edition gift for major UK holidays, primarily Father’s Day, which takes place this month, and Christmas as the ultimate stocking filler.
