WARNING: DISTRESSING CONTENT Jack-Leland Webster, 39, subjected his victim to a terrifying campaign of abuse in a case which saw him branded a ‘very dangerous individual’
Police bodyworn camera footage has captured the shocking moment a rapist and stalker asked if he could ‘call his mum and dad’ as he was arrested for his appalling crimes.
Jack-Leland Webster subjected his victim to a reign of terror, attacking and raping her, threatening to kill her and then stalking her while on bail, which included setting up numerous fake social media accounts. After preventing her from leaving his flat, he also made a chilling threat while strangling his victim, saying: “Don’t make me kill you” before sexually assaulting her, a court heard.
Footage captured the moment he was arrested at his Manchester flat. He was seen answering the door looking visibly stunned as officers detained him on suspicion of false imprisonment, rape and non-fatal strangulation.
He was heard asking: “Can I phone my mum and dad please?”, before adding: “I don’t share the same name as my mum” and that he would want to ‘tell her’, reports the Manchester Evening News.
A court heard how, in June 2024, Webster, formerly known as Jack Malone, had been accusing his victim of cheating with her ex-boyfriend. As she tried to leave his Manchester flat, he blocked the doorways to stop her from getting out. The victim had been in touch with her ex-partner after he contacted her to reveal that Webster had been posing as him to send her messages and test her loyalty during their relationship, a court heard.
After preventing her from leaving, he climbed on top of the victim, strangled her and said: “Don’t make me kill you. If you do, I’ll have to kill myself so we can be dead together.” He then proceeded to sexually assault her, Manchester Crown Court heard.
He was taken into custody, but later flouted his no-contact conditions by creating numerous fake social media accounts to stalk and message the victim, her family and friends. On one occasion, she was bombarded by more than 100 fake profiles within seconds, with Webster also pretending to be her ex-partner when sending messages, Greater Manchester Police confirmed.
Throughout police interviews, Webster denied all charges brought against him. When an officer attempted to arrange a second interview, he was deliberately obstructive, telling the officer to “pick me up from KFC” and “catch me if you can”.
Having previously pleaded guilty to stalking, Webster was subsequently found guilty of rape and strangulation by a jury when the case went to trial. On Wednesday, Webster, of Cedar Road, Earl Shilton, Leicester, was handed a sentence of nine years and five months in prison.
He has additionally been placed under an indefinite restraining order. Investigating officer Detective Constable Lucy Hatton said: “Jack-Leland Webster (formerly Jack Malone) is a very dangerous individual who was rightly remanded in custody following a prolonged stalking and domestic abuse campaign where he breached bail conditions multiple times.
“I hope this sentence offers some reassurance for other victims of stalking and sexual offences. We take all reports of stalking, rape and sexual assaults very seriously and will pursue these offenders and bring them to justice.”
