Mexico’s tsunami warning centre says no raised sea levels have been noticed so far.

Tsunami alerts have now been removed for Baja California Sur, Jalisco, Colima, and Michoacan.

It states: “Based on information from the National Tide Gauge Network and sea level observations along the coasts near the epicentre, NO anomalous sea level variations have been recorded.

“Monitoring by the National Tide Gauge Network will continue until the alert is cancelled. The Tsunami Alert is ruled out for the states of: Baja California Sur, Jalisco, Colima, and Michoacan.

“Keep the population away from beaches until the alert is cancelled; strong currents are expected at port entrances.”

Admiral Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles, head of the Navy, said: “We are only expecting a rise in water levels of up to half a metre on some beaches due to the tsunami effect caused by the earthquake. The public is advised to stay away from the beaches for the time being, but there is no problem. Thank you.”
