Met Office weather forecasters say snow is on the cards towards the end of April despite warm temperatures and sunshine also featuring in the latest predictions
The Met Office says some parts of the UK could see snow in just a few days’ time.
Met Office weather forecasters have issued their latest predictions for the end of April, and suggest some areas may face “wintry showers” despite there being sunshine to begin with.
The national weather agency’s forecast for April 21 to April 30 says “high pressure” to the north of the country should bring dry conditions and sun at the start of the period – although central and eastern areas could see “a few scattered showers”. Chilly conditions can be expected on the east coast.
The forecast states that areas further west should feel “quite warm”. However, “unsettled weather is signalled to return” by around April 25 – and the Met Office says a number of weather scenarios could then unfold.

One of those scenarios is potentially “wintry showers” on northern and eastern coasts. Snow is also possible over the Scottish mountains, the Met Office says. This will last no more than “a few days” if it does happen.

BBC Weather also suggests “wintry showers” are on the cards later this month. The BBC forecast for April 20 to April 26 states: “High pressure will most probably linger near or east of the UK early next week, ensuring mostly dry weather with just a few spots of drizzle possible here and there where cloud thickens.
“However, most places will see occasional sunshine following early fog patches, and it should be warmer than average with mostly rather light winds.”
It adds that by midweek a low pressure system may bring rain across some southern regions while the north remains drier. “The second half of the week could feature more of a north-westerly flow, blowing in somewhat cooler air with a couple of bands of rain or some showers moving south-eastwards,” the BBC says. “This could mean some wintry showers over the Highlands.”

High pressure to the north of the UK will bring plenty of dry weather and sunny spells at first. A few scattered showers are possible in central and eastern areas. Parts of the east coast could be on the chilly side with low cloud and an onshore breeze, but further west it will feel quite warm, especially in sunnier areas.
By the weekend, unsettled weather is signalled to return, but confidence in the details is low with a range of scenarios possible. One scenario is for a northerly wind bringing wintry showers to northern and eastern coasts, and some snow over Scottish mountains. If this does occur it will probably not last more than a few days, before high pressure attempts to return towards the end of the month.
