Meghan Markle has given a glimpse inside her kitchen in a brand new interview and talked about her cooking skills, including what she usually makes her children for dinner
Meghan Markle has admitted relying on frozen chicken nuggets and Tater Tots for her children despite showcasing kids’ fruit and crudite platters in her Netflix show. The Duchess of Sussex opened up alongside her mum, Doria, in a new interview inside her kitchen at her Montecito mansion as she ramped up promotion for her lifestyle brand As Ever.
The first As Ever products launched today, selling out within minutes, and come hot on the heels of her panned Netflix show. In the show called With Love, Meghan, the duchess talks frequently about her children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. She remarked how she makes them vegetable crudite plates and showcased ideas for a children’s fresh fruit platter and tea party sandwiches.
However, in a new interview with the New York Times, she opened up about the other foods she cooks them when it’s just her and the kids at home. Discussing her cooking skills, and admitting she is not a professional, she admitted her freezer is stuffed with chicken nuggets, veggie burgers and Tater Tots.
She also told the publication that she “needs to work” and that “I love to work,” pointing out that until she met her husband, she had held down a job since being 13. She also appears to brush off criticism of her Netflix show being out of touch and unrelatable, telling the outlet: “Don’t they know my life hasn’t always been like this?” while gesturing at the sweeping views from the window and her sleeping pets.
The interview came just hours before the first batch of As Ever products all sold out – just minutes after going on sale. Products including the luxury raspberry spread, which sells for around £10, and the flower sprinkles, which are £15, were snapped up within 30 minutes of going on sale. The herbal teas, which also retail for £10 also sold out as did the £21 wildflower honey.
Meghan revealed her products were available to buy with a post on her Instagram saying: “We’re live! Come shop the As ever collection I’ve poured so much love into. So excited to share this with you.” But she cautioned: “Limited quantities for each seasonal drop.”
She also posted an Instagram story of the As Ever shop going live with the Duchess squealing with delight shouting “we’re live” as the products dropped.
As Ever has generated headlines around the world and the duchess and actress Gwyneth Paltrow even posted a social media video of themselves together to counter reports of a feud centred around Meghan’s brand and Paltrow’s wellness company Goop. The development comes after the Duke of Sussex became embroiled in a dispute with Sophie Chandauka, the chairwoman of the Sentebale charity he founded that led to him quitting as patron amid a boardroom battle.
The full range of products that went on sale were raspberry spread in keepsake packaging for 14 dollars (£10.80). It will later be available without the circular box for 9 dollars (£7). The online shop of the King’s Highgrove home sells an organic raspberry and blackberry preserve for £6.95 while the Sandringham Royal estate has a raspberry and gin preserve at £6.99.
Its herbal teas – lemon ginger, peppermint and hibiscus – cost 12 dollars (£9.30) each but have all sold out. The crepe mix and shortbread cookie mix both priced at 14 dollars (£10.80) have also gone. Other products in the line included limited-edition wildflower honey with honeycomb 28 dollars (£21.60) and flower sprinkles 15 dollars (£11.60) which Meghan uses frequently and refers to in her cooking and lifestyle Netflix series With Love, Meghan.
