EXCLUSIVE: England fans are in for a treat as McDonald’s are giving away free food in honour of the Three Lion’s success – but there are some rules
England fans have Jordan Pickford to thank for McDonald’s epic free food deal, launching today.
To celebrate Pickford becoming England’s most-capped player in the Men’s FIFA World Cup, The Mirror can reveal that the fast food chain are celebrating the goalkeeper’s record-breaking achievement by changing the Saver Menu to the “Saved Menu” in his hometown of Washington, Sunderland.
The menu shake-up means hungry fans can get a quick pre-match meal in ahead of tonight’s semi-final against Argentina, as McDonald’s will also be giving away free items on the Saved Menu. These include items such as the Double Cheeseburger (£2.49), Milkshakes (£2.19) and both the Oreo and Smarties Mini McFlurry (£1.59).
Customers will also be able to get their hands on limited-edition cold cups carrying the keeper’s famous penalty prediction “cheat sheet” stickers to celebrate his achievements.
Sadly, it’s not a nationwide offering and only applies to Pickford’s hometown of Sunderland. Participating stores are in The Galleries Shopping Centre and The Peel Centre, where the deals run between 5pm and 6pm today, Wednesday, July 15.
But fans across the UK can still bag a different bargain, as McDonald’s are offering buy one get one free on all Big Mac’s from 5pm today on delivery.
Local franchisee and owner of the Washington restaurants, Jasper Maudsley, said: “We’re all incredibly proud of the England team and of course our hometown hero keeper! To see a local lad that grew up here in Washington not only help England to a World Cup Semi-Final but also become our most capped player in the tournament’s history, is a hugely proud moment for the area.
“The McDonald’s ‘Saved Menu’ is our way of saying thank you and giving back to the fans on such a huge occasion for all the country. Come on England!”
In other big Maccies news, the Cornetto McFlurry is making a return after 17 years. Served with the classic soft serve ice cream, it’s doused in either rich chocolate sauce and chunks or the strawberry sauce, both topped with tiny pieces of that classic Cornetto cone sprinkled on top.
The chain are also launching three new sauces including the Hot Honey dip, Korean BBQ and Ranch. There is also the new Hot Honey Sausage and Egg McMuffin and Hot Honey McCrispy on the menu too.
