If you’ve been eyeing up Acne Studio’s £270 scarf but don’t want to splurge, this £25 version from Marks and Spencer’s is a great cosy and affordable alternative
A scarf is one of those winter essentials that often gets overlooked when you’re planning your outfit, with most of us just grabbing any old one and throwing it on before we leave the house. However, a great scarf can actually take even the most basic outfit to the next level, which is why this year we’re all about adding a statement scarf to our look.
One that’s caught our eye is Marks and Spencer’s Striped Scarf with Wool which you can get your hands on for £25. It’s warm, it’s cosy, and it is giving us some serious Acne Studios vibes but without the hefty price tag.

The Acne Studios Mohair Checked Scarf will set you back £270, and comes in an array of different colours including this blue and grey version, which mimics the blue and grey tones in the M&S scarf. Both scarves also feature chunky fringe on the end, although the Acne Studios one has a check pattern, whilst M&S has opted for a striped print with a soft ombre effect.
The Marks and Spencer’s Striped Scarf is made with a 10% wool composition, which ensures it gives you plenty of warmth even in the coldest temperatures. However the acrylic and polyester blend also help keep it soft, rather than scratchy or itchy, so you can wear it all day without feeling irritated.
It’s also nicely sized, measuring 37cm wide and 212cm long, giving you plenty of material to wrap around your neck several times for that extra cosy feel. The scarf is brand new to the M&S website, and has only racked up one review so far.
However, that reviewer gave it a full five star rating, saying: “Matches casual and business style. Very comfy and nice colour. Everyone I know noticed it straight away and complimented it.”
If you did want more of a check pattern similar to the Acne Studios one, M&S also has a £17.50 Checked Scarf, which comes in either blue and tan or red and yellow colour combinations. It doesn’t have any wool in the material so won’t retain warmth quite as well as the striped version, but it’s a great alternative if you’re sticking to a tight budget this winter.
We also spotted this giant blanket scarf at ASOS, with the Pieces Super Soft Tassel Scarf In Calming Blue Check setting you back £18. It has similar fringed details on either end, and comes in several different colour options.
For something slightly more muted, White Stuff’s Benny Brushed Scarf, £39, comes in either navy and dark green check, or a bolder green print. It’s made from recycled polyester, with fringing on the ends and a subtle WS monogram embroidered on it.
