The Stormwear™ Lightweight Funnel Neck Gathered Jacket has received high praise from fashion fans
Leaving the house during the spring calls for preparation for all weather eventualities, from sunshine to wind to rain. While this can be done with layering and ensuring a coat fits in our bags at all times, Marks and Spencer has a solution in its Stormwear™ Lightweight Funnel Neck Gathered Jacket that means we can remain protected from the elements while being stylish.
Costing £40, the jacket comes in red and taupe grey (although the red is currently sold out online) and comes in sizes small to extra large. Designed with one of the year’s biggest trends, a funnel neck, the jacket features a relaxed fit – ideal for popping a jumper underneath when the temperatures drop – and dropped shoulders, which have a lovely subtle gathered detail.
Crafted with discreet zipped pockets for close storage, elasticated cuffs and hem for a sporty shape, one unique feature about this garment is that it has a two-way double zip. This means it can be fastened down, the traditional way, but can be worn slightly opened from the bottom thanks to its hemline zipper.
Perhaps its most versatile aspect, however, is that it is finished with a shower-resistant Stormwear™ coating, meaning it can withstand showers as well as winds, which is perfect for spring’s temperamental climate. What’s more is shoppers love it for its ‘lightweight’ nature, ensuring wearers don’t get too overheated.
One detail this rain-repellent jacket is missing, however, for those sudden downpours, is a hood. For those who find this essential, Uniqlo’s UV Protection Pocketable Parka (Patterned) is £34.90 and has a similar lightweight design but with a hood for keeping the rain off the hair and face.

The M&S Stormwear™ Lightweight Funnel Neck Gathered Jacket comes in both grey and red.
For something that can withstand more intense weather, the Columbia Women’s Hikebound™ II Waterproof Jacket is currently on sale for £77 and comes with Omni-Tech™ fully sealed seams as well as an adjustable hood, cuffs and hem. Paired with the brand’s Women’s Skien Valley™ Cargo Hiking Trousers (£63), shoppers will be fully prepared for any sudden downpours.
Although those happy to risk the rain with no hood, this Marks and Spencer jacket has been loved by shoppers and, depsite having just launched, has already sold out in the red hue and has a 4.2 star rating. One shopper raved: “I bought the jacket in red. It’s a lovely colour for the season and instantly gives you that pop. The material is quite light, so I’m wearing it over a jumper at the moment to give that extra bit of warmth. No doubt it will look nice with a t-shirt in the summer.”
Another added: “Lovely lightweight jacket. I got a medium, and it fits true to size as a UK size 12. The colour is a very nice neutral shade.”
Someone else remarked: “A lovely shade and a super soft fabric. It was a bit creased when it arrived, but it’s not meant to be crisp. A quick steam sorted it out. It’s really lightweight. I’ve worn it with jeans and navy trousers. I have had compliments. I ordered a 12, which is my usual size. Quite roomy, but I like the fit. Would recommend.”
Being so new, the only negativity experienced by one shopper was that they discovered marks on the jacket and said: “I love love love the jacket, but unfortunately, after I took the labels off, I discovered Marks on the sleeve that aren’t coming off.”
That said, however, for the most part it’s been declared a hit for spring as one person, who snapped up the red jacket before it was too late, added: “I have the red, and it’s beautiful, great quality. Love the double-ended zip. So trendy and looks fab on. Lots of compliments.”
It’s also had shoppers going wild on Instagram as Marks and Spencer posted an image of it to their page and had a barrage of comments gushing over it – one of which read: “NEED IT.”
