A 13-year-old girl was raped in a town centre with detectives speaking to locals as they hunt the attacker.
Hampshire Police have released few details of the incident which happened sometime between 6.20pm and 8.30pm in Totton on Friday evening. The force is continuing to carry out house-to-house inquiries and asking businesses to check their CCVT footage in case they have information.
Officers also issued and appeal for householders not to speculate about the incident. A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: “Our investigation into a reported rape in Totton on Friday evening continues today (Sunday), as detectives continue to make inquiries.
“It was reported a 13-year-old girl has been raped on Friday sometime between 6.20pm and 8.30pm. As part of our investigation, we have been out in the town conducting house-to-house inquiries and speaking with local businesses to identify any CCTV which could assist as we piece together a timeline of events.
“At this time, we do not believe this incident is linked to any other in the town. Along with our investigators, uniformed officers from our Neighbourhood Policing Team have been out on patrol over the weekend in Totton.”
Lead investigator Detective Inspector Claire Shawley said: “I know this incident is extremely concerning for the local community and we are working hard to investigate what has happened as a priority. Our team have been conducting inquiries in the town throughout the weekend and colleagues from our local policing teams are carrying out additional patrols.
“We are also supporting the victim and her family. I know at times like this, it is natural for people to want as much information as possible and we will share more when we can. But I would ask you not to speculate at this time about who may be involved.
