Manchester police have cordoned off Higher Road in Trafford, Urmston this evening following reports of a shooting. One person has been rushed to hospital
A person has been rushed to hopsital with serious injuries following a shooting in Manchester tonight.
Emergency services, including armed police, were called to Higher Road in Trafford, Urmston at around 8.40pm
A stretch of the road, near Urmston railway station, remains cordoned off and extra police patrol have been deployed in the area while the investigation continues. One witness described seeing a ripped puffa jacket on the pavement inside the cordon.
A GMP spokesperson said: “At around 8.42pm this evening, we were called to reports of a firearms discharge on Higher Road, Urmston. Emergency services have treated one casualty at the scene with serious injuries.
“A scene is in place and Higher Road remains closed off to the public. Extra patrols have been deployed around the local area while we continue our enquiries.”
In an update police have issued an appeal for information following the firearms discharge in Urmston this evening.
Chief Inspector Mark Allinson, Force Critical Incident Manager, said: “At around 8:42pm (Friday 16 January), we were called to reports of a firearms discharge on Higher Road, Urmston.
“Emergency services have treated one casualty at the scene with serious injuries. A scene is in place and Higher Road remains closed off to the public.
“We have deployed extra patrols around the local area while we continue our enquiries”.
