A huge fire has erupted in a city centre this evening with plumes of smoke covering streets and train tracks causing “major disruption”.
A building, which witnesses have said is the now-derelict Hotspur Press building beside Oxford Road station, in Manchester, has erupted into flames with thick smoke clouds seen for miles around. Emergency services are at the scene currently tackling the huge blaze and there is a cordon in place.
Images from across the region show the plumes of smoke in the sky, while there is also footage of the firefighters tackling the ongoing fire. Due to the major incident, all lines are blocked at Oxford Road station.
Services running through this station have been delayed or cancelled, National Rail announced tonight, with disruption expected for the rest of the day. It stated: “There is a fire next to the track at Manchester Oxford Road, closing all lines at this station.”
