TikToker Seb shares his daily trips from Hamburg in Germany to Canary Wharf in London on TikTok which take him around five hours and have left many people bewildered while asking why he does it
A man who shares his daily commutes to work in London all the way from Germany has revealed why he doesn’t just move to the UK.
Seb has a large TikTok following who take in his unusual routine, with comments ranging from being impressed to bewildered at why he does it. The content creator has a five-hour commute involving one flight and four trains, which he appears to do most working days, from Hamburg to Canary Wharf.
But for many Brits who are stressed enough over whether one train will arrive on time in the UK to get them to work, it is unclear how often he faces delays and how he deals with it. He does though give a reason for why he does the elaborate trip – it isn’t so as to save money with the expensive cost of living in London, but due to love as his partner lives in Hamburg.
On one of his videos Seb told how he left his office at Canary Wharf at 5pm and gets to Heathrow an hour later after taking two trains. Then with an hour to go before his flight departs he grabs some food and heads for his plane.
“Back on European soil in Deutschland,” he said as he arrived in Hamburg, although he did have to rush between his third and fourth trains. A theme of his trips is to beat his personal record of the time taken to get to and from work. It appears that his record at returning home stands at four hours and 57 minutes. Seb doesn’t commute every single day between the two countries though and once a month stays for four days – Monday to Thursday in London.
In one video he started: “How long will it take me today to commute from Hamburg, Germany on mainland Europe to London in England. So it is Monday morning. I will be staying in London for three nights and my commute this morning started at 4.34am German time, one hour ahead of the UK. I cycled to the station and then got on a train, jumped on another train and then got to the airport right around 5.33am.”
Many people have been left baffled by his trips with one person commenting on TikTok: “Sir pls save yourself this hassle and just move into London omg!?” while another said: ‘Is your work place funding your travel coz[sic] I don’t understand.”
