Man Utd player ratings as 8/10 star shines in big win over Crystal Palace

Joshua Zirkzee and Mason Mount grabbed second-half goals to get Manchester United back on track in the Premier League with a battling 2-1 victory at Crystal Palace

Manchester United came from behind to win 2-1 against Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon – putting Monday night’s dismal defeat to Everton behind them with an important win on the road.

It wasn’t easy for United however, who were lacklustre in the first period and fortunate to only go in one down at the break, after Jean-Philippe Mateta opened the scoring from the penalty spot. The Palace centre-forward had to retake his penalty after initially finding the net, but having only scored via a ‘double-touch’.

However, United boss Ruben Amorim watched Joshua Zirkzee get off the mark this season and score his first league goal since December with a fine low finish after 54 minutes to equalise. And nine minutes later, Mason Mount’s curled effort put the Red Devils in front.

After an initial response by Palace, United held on relatively comfortably to make it four wins in seven to move into the top-half and only four points off rivals Manchester City.

Senne Lammens – 6

Made a few saves you would expect him to make in the first half, but he was the pick of a bad bunch in the opening 45 minutes.

Leny Yoro – 3

Had another bad game. Yoro got away with a blunder when Mateta failed to finish and appeared to redeem himself with an important block, but he made a clumsy challenge to concede the penalty.

Matthijs de Ligt – 5

Mateta is an old-school centre-forward and asked questions of De Ligt from the first whistle, winning the physical battle and pulling him out of position. Looked more comfortable in the second half.

Luke Shaw – 6

Shaw made a great block to deny Palace a two-goal advantage just before half-time. Not much attacking threat came down his side all afternoon, which was a compliment from the hosts. Booked for a professional foul.

Amad – 5

Was relocated to right-wing back, where he has looked comfortable, but he wasn’t involved with the intricate play he is capable of orchestrating down that side. Could have done better.

Casemiro – 5

Amorim could not believe that Casemiro did not fire United into the lead just a minute into the match. The Brazilian wasted a header from a free-kick, but improved after a shaky start. 5

Bruno Fernandes – 7

Fernandes is world-class because he creates something even when he is having an off day. Fernandes was responsible for both of United’s assists from set-piece routines.

Diogo Dalot – 7

Dalot was recalled by default but made a difference with his long throw-ins, although it would have been difficult to have been a downgrade on Patrick Dorgu after his display against Everton.

Bryan Mbeumo – 5

Mbeumo was untouchable before the international break, but he hasn’t returned with as much zest. He still worked hard down the right, but he is capable of more in the final third.

Mason Mount – 8

Made his first start since playing a key role in the win against Liverpool at Anfield. His performance was similar – hard working and industrious, but there was a key difference: he scored.

Joshua Zirkzee – 7

Offered nothing in the first half, following up a good touch with a bad one, but equalised with a brilliant finish. Zirkzee’s half-volley had to be powerful to beat the goalkeeper – and it was.

Noussair Mazraoui – 6 – He was an improvement on Yoro.

Lisandro Martinez – 6 – Fine on his appearance since February.

Patrick Dorgu – Arrived late on. N/A
