Fortnum & Mason is known for its luxury products and is highly popular during the festive season – but is it actually worth getting your Christmas crackers from the iconic British store?
A man splashed out £585 on fancy Fortnum & Mason Christmas crackers but was floored when he opened them up.
Carmie Sellitto was expecting big things from the luxury box, which came with six crackers in eye-catching gold packaging. The product description reads: “Almost too beautiful to pull at all, each of the crackers within hides an indulgent gift from across the floors of our Piccadilly home – from sweet confections, teatime treats, and luxurious body and home gifts, to a keepsake coin purse, featuring an exclusive bee design.”
However, Camrie believes the items behind the doors should only be worth about £45, so he wasn’t best pleased! The 26-year-old, from London, admitted: “I can’t believe I spent £585 on this.”
So what was actually inside? Despite saying the crackers “look beautiful, Carmie was unimpressed to find two small boxes of truffles in two of them.
In his short clip, he asked Fortnum & Mason: “Why are you doing me dirty for real?”
Next, he unwrapped some chocolate and orange biscuits and a tin of loose leaf tea. Carmie added: “I feel like I’ve genuinely been robbed.”
While the fourth cracker contained hand cream, the fifth held a candle. Disappointed, the TikToker said: “It smells good, it just smells like vanilla. But I feel like I’ve seriously wasted my money here.”
And the sixth cracker was equally as underwhelming. It held a shot measuring tool, which is commonly known as a jigger.
Carmie concluded: “No way. I spent £585, and I got a cocktail shaker. This is actually insane. If you’re going to ask me if it was worth it, I’d say hell no. I think in total this would have come to about £45.”
Holding up his small collection of items, Carmie sarcastically added: “Merry Christmas.” And people were equally unimpressed, with thousands taking the time to leave comments.
One urged: “Get a refund.” Another said: “Bro, that’s daylight robbery.” Meanwhile, a third added: “That’s actually shocking.”
We have approached Fortnum & Mason for comment but are awaiting a response at the time of publication.
