City of Manchester officers were on patrol when they found the victim in the early hours of the morning on Peter Street, Deansgate
A man is in hospital in critical condition after being stabbed in a “targeted attack” in Manchester city centre.
The victim, a 31-year-old man, was found with stabbing injuries on Peter Street, Deansgate, where a number of bars and restaurants can be found. The discovery was made by City of Manchester officers who were on patrol at around 3.40am today.
The victim received first aid before being taken to hospital. He remains in critical but stable condition, a statement from Greater Manchester Police said.
While an investigation was launched, no arrested have yet been made. A police cordon remains in place at the scene of the incident.
Chief Inspector Mike Tachauer said: “Whilst no arrests have been made, I’d like to reassure residents and the wider community that we believe this was a targeted attack and there is no wider threat to the community. Our investigation is working at pace to establish those responsible for this.
“There is currently a scene in place around Peter Street and officers will continue to be in the area to provide reassurance.” Anyone holding any information about the incident is asked to contact the police on 101, quoting incident number 531 of July 19.
