A man has died following a stabbing that earlier saw a primary school plunged into lockdown in Alum Rock, Birmingham

A man has died following a stabbing near a primary school, police have said.

Emergency services, including armed officers, were called to Bridge Road in Alum Rock, Birmingham, shortly after 12pm following reports that a man had been seriously injured.

West Midlands Police has confirmed that a man in his 20s has sadly died. A 32-year-old man was arrested and remains in police custody. The incident is not being treated as terror-related.

A woman also sustained injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

Detective Superintendent James Munro said: “Our thoughts remain with the man’s family at this time. We believe this to be a contained incident with a man in custody.

“We are reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to a number of people in the area. But would appeal to anyone who has any information to get in touch.

“We understand how deeply distressing and concerning this incident is and we will have extra officers in the area to offer reassurance to the community.”

Witnesses or anyone with information, including mobile phone or dashcam footage, are asked to contact the force on 101, quoting log number 2105 of 3 March. A public portal has been set up for people to upload footage.

Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or visiting the Crimestoppers website.
