Richard Woollard, 40, died after his car smashed into a pensioner’s home in Paston Ridings, Peterborough, where residents described scenes of ‘chaos’ as the pair were rushed to hospital
A man has died after his car smashed into a pensioner’s home in Peterborough.
Richard Woollard, 40, of Werrington, Peterborough, died in the collision which left a man and woman in their 70s, who were inside the house, injured.
Richard’s parents said in a statement: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of our son, Richard. He will be profoundly missed by his family and friends. Please respect our privacy during this difficult time”.
Emergency services swarmed the property at around 6pm on May 17 after a blue Ford Mondeo slammed into the front of the semi-detached home. The car struck the property after colliding with stationary vehicles parked along the street.
The man was taken to hospital, where he died on Sunday May 24, Cambridgeshire Police said.
The man and a woman in their 70s were also taken to hospital with serious injuries. The man has since been released and the woman is still receiving treatment. She is in a serious, but not life-threatening, condition.
Greg Hilliam, a resident living close to the scene of the crash, described scenes of “chaos” as emergency services arrived. He told Cambridgeshire Live: “I didn’t hear a thing, the only thing I heard was the sirens.
“I looked out of the window and thought what the hell is going on? My first thought was also how did it get to this state? However, cars do bomb down here. I’ve been here for 39 years and nothing like that has happened.”
Another neighbour, who didn’t want to be named, said his family were woken by the “commotion”. He said: “My sister said people were gawping. The car came through the [house’s] hedge].” He also praised another neighbour who ran over to help, calling them a “hero”.
