West Mercia Police has confirmed a man has been arrested on suspicion of rape after a woman was allegedly attacked in broad daylight in an alleyway in Worcester

A woman was allegedly raped ‘in broad daylight’ on Saturday morning.

West Mercia Police say the victim was allegedly attacked in an alleyway in The Tything between 6am and 8.30am yesterday morning.

In an update, the force has confirmed a man, 23, has been arrested on suspicion of rape. The man remains in police custody as enquiries continue, the Sun reports.

Specially trained offers are also said to be supporting the victim. Officers have also been deployed to the area to reassure locals and carry out further enquiries.

Detective Inspector Lisa Tibbits said: “I know an incident like this will bring great concern to the community and I would like to reassure the public that a thorough investigation is now on going.

“I am appealing to anybody who may have any information that would help with our enquiries, however insignificant you feel it may be, to please contact the police.

“As part of our investigation we have a man in custody, who is helping us with enquiries.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area as we carry out enquiries and specially trained officers are supporting the victim”.
