Two elderly people have died following a house fire on a residential street in a Welsh town.
Emergency services were called to the scene of a fire in Adam Street in Abertillery this morning. A man and a woman, both in their 90s, died at the scene, it has been confirmed. Their next of kin have been informed and are receiving specialist support.
A spokesman for Gwent Police said: “We were called to a report of a house fire in Adam Street, Abertillery, at around 7.55am on Sunday (February 9). Officers attended along with teams from the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Wales Air Ambulance and Welsh Ambulance Service.
“Two people, a man and a woman and both in their nineties, are confirmed to have died at the scene by a doctor. Their next of kin are aware and are receiving support from specialist officers.”
