An elderly woman, in her 70s, died on Friday night after an alleged hit-and-run in Stoke-on-Trent, and police have now arrested an 86-year-old man, it’s been confirmed
An 86-year-old man has been arrested after the death of a pedestrian in a hit-and-run. Police questioned the suspect over the weekend.
It follows the death of a woman – in her 70s – on Friday 12 December. The woman died at the Royal Stoke University Hospital after being struck by a hit-and-run driver on Leek Road, in Milton.
A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “We have made an arrest in connection with a non-stop collision in Stoke-on-Trent. Officers were called to the junction of South Drive and Leek Road just after 8am on Friday (12 December). The collision involved a pedestrian and what is described as a small blue/grey car. The driver of the car did not stop and left the scene, heading towards Abbey Hulton. The pedestrian was taken to hospital but sadly died shortly afterwards from her injuries. Her family continue to be supported by specially trained officers.
“We have arrested an 86-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, on suspicion of causing death by careless and or inconsiderate driving, failing to stop after a road accident, and failing to report an accident. He was questioned in custody and bailed while our enquiries continue.”
Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses following the fatal crash. They should call the police on 101, quoting incident number 129 of December 12.
