A man has been left seriously injured in hospital after an alleged stabbing in Brighton – with one woman arrested at the scene.
Armed officers raced to the seaside town this morning after the horror unfolded at around 10:30am on George Street. Sussex Police said they were called to reports of a stabbing, before a 28-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
A 36-year-old local woman was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, the force added.
Witness Mark Earnshaw said he saw a man on the floor while arriving at work. “There was a bit of an altercation outside Figaro’s Cafe and something happened from there,” the electrician, 59, told The Argus.
“Apparently there was a bag that had been discarded further down George Street under a car which police found,” he added. “It isn’t a nice thing to see at 10.30am in the morning.”
A Sussex Police spokeswoman said: “At around 10.30am, police were called to a report that a man had been stabbed in George Street, Brighton. A 28-year-old man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
“Officers deployed to the scene, and a 36-year-old local woman was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.”
