A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a car allegedly rammed into a pedestrian in Alnwick, Northumberland, on Friday evening
A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a car mounted a pavement and and allegedly rammed into a pedestrian repeatedly in Northumberland.
Police responded to a report of a serious assault on Upper Barresdale in Alnwick at about 6.40pm on Friday.
It was reported that a black Audi A3 left the road and was repeatedly driven at a pedestrian before striking them and leaving the scene. Emergency services attended and the pedestrian – a man in his 30s – was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries. He remains in hospital.
Northumbria Police launched an investigation and arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in police custody.
Detective Sergeant Adele Catlow said: “This has clearly been a very serious incident which has resulted in a man sustaining significant injuries. The investigation is at an early stage, but we do believe that those involved are known to each other.
“We have made an arrest, and our officers will continue to conduct enquiries in the area and offer reassurance to the public. We are keen to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the incident or was travelling in the area at the time.
“Please come forward – the information you are able to provide might just prove crucial in helping to establish the circumstances behind this report.”
