North Yorkshire-based meat giant Holmesterne Foods, which has been in business for four decades, appointed joint administrators this week, according to a London Gazette notice
A long-established UK meat supplier has entered administration after four decades in business.
Holmesterne Farm Co. Limited, trading as Holmesterne Foods, appointed joint administrators on May 11, according to a notice in the London Gazette.
Founded in 1986, the North Yorkshire-based firm began as a catering butchery before growing into a supplier of prepared meat and vegetable products for supermarkets, manufacturers and food service companies.
Its product range includes raw, cooked, chilled, ambient and frozen meat and vegetable products.
The company later expanded into a multi-site operation with two production facilities in the country. Its main office is on Gatherley Road Industrial Estate on Brompton on Swale, Richmond.

Interpath Advisory partners James Richard Clark and Howard Smith have been appointed as joint administrators, according to the notice.
Products manufactured by Holmesterne include sausages, ribs, stuffings, kebabs, marinated meats, roast vegetables and cooked meat products sold in a variety of pack formats.
Its two manufacturing factories are equipped to extrude, tumble, mix, blend, slice and dice meats. The company’s cooking processes include steaming, roasting, brat and retort methods.
At its Brompton on Swale site, in-house butchers handle red meat and poultry in raw, chilled and frozen form, also producing items such as meatballs, barbecue lines and stuffings, the Express reports.
Its Leeming Bar site focuses on cooked meats, as well as roasted and steamed vegetables supplied chilled, frozen or ambient stable.
The firm also ran a development kitchen, working with clients to turn food concepts into commercial products, serving customers across retail, manufacturing and good service.
James Clark, managing director at Interpath and joint administrator, said: “It is a real shame to see Holmesterne enter administration, particularly after the sale of the business last year and the renewed optimism that followed.
“Despite the best efforts of both the management team and the new owners, the headwinds facing the business sadly proved too challenging to overcome.
“Our immediate priority is to support employees through this difficult period, and we will be doing all we can to assist them in the days and weeks ahead.”
The Mirror has contacted Holmesterne Foods for comment.
