Emergency services rushed to an incident on the M6 where a girl was taken to hospital after falling from an ambulance on the southbound carriageway at junction 32 linking to the M55
A teenage girl has been rushed to hospital after ‘falling from an ambulance’ on a busy motorway which was forced to close.
Emergency services were called to the incident on the M6 southbound at junction 32 linking to the M55 on Tuesday evening. The girl was taken to hospital but is not thought to have suffered any serious injuries.
Lancashire Police said it was responding to a road traffic collision and warned the motorway would be ‘closed for some time’ as the force assessed the situation. Drivers were warned to avoid the area and ‘look for an alternative route’.
The incident was first reported at 5.17pm and all lanes were able to be reopened at around 7pm, reported LancsLive. In an updated statement, Lancashire Police said: “At 5:17pm on Tuesday 6th January, we received a report that a teenage girl had fallen from the back of an ambulance on the M6 southbound to M55 slip road.
“She has been taken to hospital but is thankfully not thought to have suffered any serious injuries. The motorway was closed for a short period and has now fully reopened.”
Meanwhile, a woman in her 60s has died after a crash in a layby with police arresting a man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. The fatal incident involving three vehicles occurred at around 8.50am on Monday, January 5 on a layby on the A10 between Hertford and Broxbourne.
The three vehicles are a grey Porsche Cayenne, a red Fiat 500 and a white Volvo Tipper lorry. The Fiat and the Volvo were both stationary, Hertfordshire Constabulary said in a statement.
The driver of the Fiat, a woman aged in her 60s, was out of the vehicle at the time of the collision and died at the scene despite efforts by emergency services.
“We are working to establish how the collision occurred and I want to hear from anybody who saw what happened, or the vehicles involved. If you think you have information that could help, please get in touch,” said DC Lewis Stanley, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Serious Collision Investigation Unit.
“I would also like to ask that anybody who was driving in the area around that time with a dashcam to please get in touch. Your footage could be important to our enquiries,” Stanley said.
The driver of the Porsche, a man aged in his sixties, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been bailed while enquiries continue.
DC Stanley said witnesses can get in contact with officers by emailing him and quoting ISR 110 of January 5, reporting information online, speaking to an operator in the Force Communications Room via the online web chat or calling the non-emergency number 101.
Witnesses can also stay anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their untraceable online form. Hertfordshire Constabulary have asked anyone with dash cam footage in relation to the collision to upload the footage online.
