Drivers face major delays after the M48 Severn Bridge has been closed due to strong winds.
The closure was announced by National Highways today, warning motorists that the M48 Severn Bridge is shut between Junction 1 and 2, at either shore of the Bristol Channel.
The motorway is closed in both directions, drivers were warned, after high winds forced authorities to close the Gloucestershire crossing into Wales.
Road users were advised to use the alternative crossing via the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge between Severn Beach near Bristol and the Welsh town of Caldicot.
National Highways said: “The M48 Severn Bridge in Gloucestershire remains closed in both directions between J1 and J2 due to strong winds.
“Road users are advised to use the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge as an alternate route.”
Google traffic currently shows some slight slowing of traffic around junction 22 as rerouted traffic joins the M4 to cross the Bristol Channel.
