London Liverpool Street Station has been ‘completely evacuated’ according to rail passengers as Greater Anglia has confirmed police are the scene dealing with an incident
Passengers at London Liverpool Street station have been evacuated tonight, as police ‘deal with an incident’.
Train company Greater Anglia confirmed tonight that there would be significant disruption to travel in and out of the station tonight. All platforms were “blocked” earlier this evening as police deal with the unspecified incident at the station.
Passengers took to social media to share they had been told to evacuate the building in central London. Joshua Hart said in an X/Twitter post: “London Liverpool Street station completely evacuated as I was about to hop on the train home. Sirens going off and told to evacuate immediately…It was like something straight out of a war zone.”
User MEL said it was “chaos” at the station. She shared a video of people leaving the station while a siren could be heard in the background.
Sarah Palmer-Edwards said the building was evacuated at about 6:30pm in an X/Twitter post responding to Greater Anglia’s update.
In an update at 6:57pm, all lines reopened, Greater Anglia said on X/Twitter. It did warn that some services could still be delayed or cancelled outright.
“Train services running to and from this station are returning to normal but some services may still be cancelled, delayed or revised,” the post said. “Disruption is expected until 20:30 (8:30pm) 17/12.”
Greater Anglia shared the following information for people wanting to use its services. It added tickets could be used on the following lines:
- Greater Anglia tickets can be used on London Underground services across reasonable routes.
- Greater Anglia tickets are being accepted on c2c services between Fenchurch Street and Southend Central.
- Customers can use their tickets on Elizabeth Line services between Liverpool Street and Shenfield
- Great Northern will be conveying Greater Anglia customers between Moorgate and Hertford North, and between Kings Cross and Cambridge
Greater Anglia added: “Services in and out of Liverpool Street are returning to normal following British Transport Police dealing with an Incident at the station.
“This means that trains can operate normally on all routes. However, disruption is still expected until we restore our advertised timetable. Please allow extra time for your journey.”
The Mirror has contacted the British Transport Police for comment.
