‘Other parties offer the politics of division’ says Rachel Reeves
Other political parties offer “the politics of division”, Rachel Reeves has said ahead of the Labour conference in Liverpool.
Speaking in Southport, where she unveiled backing of up to £20 million to restore the seaside town’s pier, the Chancellor said: “Other parties offer division, the politics of division, and we believe that people have more in common than that which divides us.
“And bringing communities together like here in Southport is what I came into this business for, and that’s what we’ll be setting out at our conference this week.”
Ms Reeves also said: “It’s our job this week and all the time to communicate that message, and what we’ll be setting out this week is our plans for renewal but also our plans to bring people together.”
The Chancellor had earlier said: “I’m looking forward to the Labour Party conference. It’s a chance for my party, the Labour Party, to show the country what we are achieving. Is there more to do? Absolutely.
“But in the first year and a bit of this Labour Government, we have opened free breakfast clubs at primary schools, bringing back free school meals for more children, we’re building the 1.5 million homes so that families can get on the housing ladder, we’ve reduced NHS waiting lists, and we’re making investments right across the north of England.”
