A boiler expert has shared the recommended temperature range to set your thermostat to this winter
A boiler expert from New Boiler Installation Glasgow has stressed the importance of knowing how to heat your home properly during winter. Getting it right can keep your property warm whilst avoiding astronomical bills or frozen pipes.
Rather than turning the heating up when temperatures plummet, the expert advised maintaining a steady temperature. They recommended keeping the thermostat at an “ideal temperature” of between 18C and 20C throughout the winter months.
This ensures household comfort whilst enabling the boiler to run efficiently, reports the Express.
They said: “To avoid frozen pipes, you should set a minimum temperature on your boiler during winter.
“Even when you’re not at home, it’s advisable to keep your thermostat at a minimum of 10C to prevent costly pipe-freezing issues. Modern technology offers an excellent solution in the form of smart thermostats.”

When temperatures plunge to freezing, water in pipes often freezes and expands, leading to cracked or even burst pipes.
A burst pipe releases all the water it contains into the home, resulting in significant water damage.
While it’s crucial to keep the thermostat on a low setting, insulating pipes in rooms without heating or those with exposed pipes can also be beneficial.
This can be achieved using insulation sleeves or foam pipe, commonly referred to as pipe lagging.
