The Princess of Wales is known to have quite the coat collection in her royal wardrobe
Kate Middleton has, and always will be, one of the best-dressed members of the Royal Family of all time. From her impeccable Alexander McQueen gowns and her Zara blazers to her twinkling jewels passed down to her by Queen Elizabeth II before her death, she never fails to disappoint.
However, there is one item in particular that fans can’t get enough of when it comes to autumn-winter dressing, and that’s her stellar coat collection. Whether it’s from designer brand Holland Cooper, Barbour or L.K.Bennett, we’re always lusting after her looks.
As the weather turns colder, we’re rounding up some of Kate’s best coats that she’s been wearing this season, all to inspire your own jacket wardrobe…
Kate’s Olive Barbour Wax Defence Jacket
We have seen the Princess of Wales sport this jacket on various occasions throughout the years. We first saw it in 2021 during a dog walk on the palace grounds, and most recently during a visit to Long Meadow Cider on October 14. Kate has at least four other jackets from the brand in her wardrobe; however, it’s the Barbour Wax Defence Jacket that seems to be her favourite.
We’ve also found some more affordable alternatives so you can copy her look for less. Starting off with M&S’ Cotton Blend Thermowarmth™ Puffer Jacket, currently £48 down from £60. Or, Peacocks Dark Green Waxed Barn Jacket, costing £45.
Kate’s Maroon Emilia Wickstead coatdress
Kate knows how to effortlessly style a coatdress, and this Emilia Wickstead option that she wore on September 17 for the arrival of President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump at Windsor Castle in Windsor is one of our personal favourites. Not only did the outfit embrace one of the biggest colour trends of the season, but it was the perfect nod to autumn.
F&F’s Belted Longline Coat in Purple is a perfect, affordable alternative at just £49.50. Or, opt for Wallis’ PU Pocket Detail Longline Coat, which comes in a brighter berry shade, making it suitable for various occasions.
Kate’s Charcoal Jigsaw Coat
During a visit to Southport on 23rd September 2025 alongside Prince William, the Princess sported an old-season Jigsaw coat, which excellently coordinated with her pale pink Burberry blouse and grey trousers. You can shop new season styles of Kate’s Jigsaw Wool Maxi City Coat here for £389, where it is available in either taupe, purple, or brown.
If you’d like more purse-friendly options, then why not bag yourself Topshop’s Clean Double Breasted Longline Coat in Charcoal for £85, or H&M’s Single-Breasted Coat for £74.99? Both are excellent investment pieces as they will always work for winter seasons to come, no matter what the fashion trends might be in the future.
Kate’s Green Me+Em Cropped Suede Jacket
For a special event alongside First Lady Melania Trump on September 18, Kate impressed in Me+Em’s Dark Green Suede Cropped Military Jacket, originally costing a hefty £550. It currently is on offer for 50% making it £275, however sadly it is sold out. But don’t worry, New Look has got a Dark Khaki Multi Button Shacket Jacket, £34.99, that is a wonderful alternative to Kate’s, and will still give you the same understated yet elegant ensemble.
Or, add La Redoute’s Signatures Anton Khaki Short Pea Coat in Wool Mix to your shopping basket for £139.99.
Kate’s Black Catherine Walker & Co coat
Rewearing one of her most exquisite coats for Armistice Day on November 11 2025, the Princess wore a Catherine Walker & Co black military-inspired coat suitable for the occasion. Kate first wore the item at the National Service of Remembrance in 2019, then again for the same event in 2023.
We are true believers that everyone should have a trusty black coat in their wardrobe to add an immediate tailored edge to any outfit. For a similar buy, Friends Like These’ Black Tailored Maxi Length Single Button Coat, worth £79, is a great smart option, while M&S’s Single Breasted Longline Tailored Coat, costing £69, is brilliant for a less formal everyday alternative.
Our list of Kate’s most influential coats could go on and on, but it seems her autumn-winter 2025 ensembles are quickly becoming some of our top looks.
