Witnesses report that Brit tourist Joshua Kershaw, 21, collapsed in a bar and was treated in hospital before being tragically found dead in his hotel room on January 13
Brit tourist Joshua Kershaw collapsed in a bar in Bangkok and was treated in hospital before making his way to the city’s busy nightlife area, according to reports.
The 21-year-old was reportedly captured on CCTV during a night out in the heart of Bangkok’s nightlife district just hours before he was found dead in his hotel room on January 13. His Yorkshire-based family had believed he was in Pattaya, where he had planned to visit, YorkshireLive reports.
Joshua, from Grimsby, Lincolnshire, is said to have checked into Maxim’s Inn hotel in Bangkok on the evening of January 12, before planning to travel to the tourism hotspot Pattaya. His body was discovered by hotel staff the following afternoon, with police called to the scene.
Police in Bangkok are now waiting for autopsy results, which are expected to determine the young man’s cause of death, the Thai Examiner reports. On the evening of January 12, Joshua was seen on security footage at a bar near his hotel. He was seen sitting with a woman before eating pizza and chicken.
At some point, Joshua is said to have fallen from his seat and collapsed, losing consciousness. He was taken to hospital by ambulance. Bar staff believed he may have choked on his food, The Sun reports. A witness said Joshua had arrived at around 1.30am with a woman, ordered pizza, fried chicken and two beers, before collapsing.
The witness reportedly said: “He then fell off his chair and collapsed, losing consciousness.” Joshua was taken to hospital for treatment but later discharged himself, according to reports. It is believed he returned to Bangkok’s party area until around 5.45am, before being seen heading back to his hotel room carrying two beers.
Tragically, he was found dead in his hotel room later that afternoon. Joshua’s family did not learn of his death until nine days later, when they were informed on Wednesday (January 21).
A Foreign Office spokesperson said at the time: “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Thailand and have been in contact with the local authorities.”
On Wednesday, his mother, Jenny, from Wakefield, announced the news in a heartbreaking Facebook post. Joshua’s family are now desperate to get his body home. A GoFundMe appeal has raised over £12,000 and can be found here.
