Alison Higgins, a joint headteacher at Barham Primary School, near Canterbury, has tragically died with tributes telling how she “touched the lives of so many children and families”
An “inspirational and caring” headteacher has suddenly died causing shock with tributes pouring in from the local community.
Alison Higgins was one half of the leadership team at Barham Primary School, in Barham near Canterbury, having taken up a role in the village 10 years ago. The school announced Alison’s death on its website, saying she “died in the early hours of Monday”.
“It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we wish to inform you of the sudden death of Alison Higgins, our co-headteacher,” the school said in a statement.

“This news will undoubtedly have a profound impact on the children and families who have known Alison well, and especially the staff who worked closely alongside Alison for 10 years and considered her a dear colleague and friend.
“We are sure you will have your own memories of Alison’s kind, thoughtful and supportive heart. We have been incredibly fortunate to have been led by such an inspirational and caring headteacher here at Barham School.”
The statement told how she had a big impact on pupils and their families, while offering condolences to her family during an “incredibly difficult time”. It said: “Alison was totally committed to the school and so proud of all the children. She has touched the lives of so many children and families.
“We extend our sincere condolences to Chris, Alison’s husband, her sons, family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.”
Barham Parish Council said it was “deeply saddened to hear of the sudden passing” of Alison. It added: “She was a kind, thoughtful and dedicated teacher who made a lasting and positive contribution to the school and the wider village community, supporting and inspiring the many children she taught over the years.
“Our sincere condolences are extended to her family, colleagues, pupils and the entire school community at this very difficult time.”
Reverend Stefan Thomas, of St John the Baptist Church in the village, said: “Such loss is magnified in knowing what a wonderful teacher she was who lived for the school children and her team of teachers for over 10 years.
“Our immediate thoughts and prayers go with her family and friends, as my prayers are also for the wider community around us.”
