The high-street brand has delivered an edit of denim-free alternatives that are just as versatile as a pair of jeans
Jeans might be a timeless go-to, but they’re not always the most comfortable option, especially for all-day wear. But Marks and Spencer has quietly built a strong line-up of trousers that shoppers are hailing as worthy (and far more comfortable) alternatives to denim.
From on-trend carrot leg cuts to classic chinos, the retailer’s latest drop covers a wide range of styles, colours and fits. Think everything from easy neutrals to more playful hues, with inclusive sizing and lengths spanning extra-short, petite, regular and long.
Below, we’ve rounded up some of the standout styles – starting with a pair that’s already proving popular.
Elasticated Waist Carrot Leg Trousers – £26
Carrot leg styles are everywhere right now, loved for their relaxed fit through the hips and thighs with a gently tapered ankle that creates a flattering, modern shape. And these trousers tap straight into one of this season’s biggest trends.
Available in five soothing shades (though the blue is our top pick), they closely resemble classic jeans, but are actually made from pure cotton for a softer, more breathable feel. The elasticated waistband is another big win, offering extra comfort, especially on bloated days.

These pure cotton trousers have a flattering carrot fit and ankle-grazer length.
Reviews-wise, this person said: “Best fit trousers I’ve found in a long time, I’m usually a size 10 regular and 5ft 5inches tall but went for the 8 regular in this style, and they fit perfectly, I have the beige, the pale blue and the black and they are all fabulous.”
Meanwhile, a second chimed in: “Great casual trousers which are comfortable but also nicely tailored.” However, they noted: “I had the pockets stitched closed to give a more tailored effect.”
Turn Up Wide Leg Chinos – £29
These new-season chinos are a fantastic choice for spring, and a classic pick for holidays thanks to their easy, polished feel. Made from a breathable cotton blend, they’re ideal for warmer days, while the high-waisted, slightly stretchy design keeps things comfortable without compromising on structure.
The light khaki shade is especially versatile. Pair it with a crisp white shirt for a put-together daytime look, or style with a simple vest and sandals for something more relaxed on sunnier days.
Unfortunately, there aren’t any reviews for these chinos yet. Our only note is that the light colour could mark easily, in which case a darker pair, such as this £79 navy pair from Boden, could be a better option.
Drawstring Wide Leg Trousers – £28
When it comes to summer dressing, linen is always a safe bet, and for good reason. Known for its lightweight, breathable finish, it’s perfect for staying cool as temperatures rise.
This wide-leg pair have a relaxed fit and an adjustable drawstring waist, making them a laid-back addition to any wardrobe. There are six colours to choose from, including versatile navy and black, meaning they’re easy to style, too.
As above, there aren’t any reviews for this pair yet, but linen trousers are popular across the high street. The White Company has a beautiful barrel-shaped pair made from pure European Flax linen, although they’re more expensive at £110.
