First-Time Caller author B.K. Borison has shared some of her favourite romance reads to celebrate the most romantic day of the year

Valentine’s Day is here, and while romance novels are for all year-round, there’s no better time to pick one up than this weekend.

But with so many to choose from, it can be tricky to know what to go for. Do you keep it light and breezy with a holiday romance or do you dive in at the deep end with a 600-page romantasy?

Luckily, bestselling author B.K. Borison, known for the Lovelight Farms series, as well as First-Time Caller and the forthcoming And Now, Back to You, is here to help.

“From rival spies to competing academics to cottagecore fantasy, there’s a little something swoony for everyone this Valentine’s Day,” she said. “There’s nothing more romantic than a mug of warm tea, a cosy set of pyjamas, and a very good book. Isn’t slipping into a love story the ultimate fantasy? Here are some bingeable books to keep warm with this Valentine’s day.”

The Blonde Who Came in from the Cold by Ally Carter

“I’ve never read a book by Ally Carter that hasn’t tossed me head over heels while simultaneously kept me on the edge of my seat. She writes characters that are sharp, witty, and utterly irresistible.

“In The Blonde Who Came in from the Cold, we follow two rival spies who must join forces to stay alive. It’s fast-paced and utterly unputdownable. Another Ally Carter masterpiece.”

Nightshade by Autumn Woods

“Tucked in the Scottish Highlands, there’s an elite university for only the most powerful families. Ophelia Winters enrols with a scholarship, the ultimate outsider, and starts to fall for the one person she shouldn’t — the son of the prime suspect in her parent’s ‘accidental’ death.

“If you like your romance with a heavy dose of suspense and addictive, enemies-to-lovers tension, Alex and Ophelia are the perfect pair for you.”

Rewitched by Lucy Jane Wood

“If you loved Gilmore Girls but yearned for a dash of Practical Magic, then you’re going to love Lucy Jane Wood. Rewitched is a cosy romance about a witch named Belladonna who has lost her spark. With her magic on the line and a trial on the horizon, she’s paired with an infuriatingly handsome watchman who’s sworn to protect her.

“Reading this book is like watching the fog roll in from behind a window while wrapped in a blanket. It will warm you from the inside out.”

The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst

“The best word I have for describing this book is lush. Lush storytelling, lush setting, and a lush, delectable love story. When Kiela has to flee from the Great Library of Alyssium, she seeks refuge in her childhood home.

“Unfortunately for her, she discovers a well-meaning and handsome neighbour who seemingly can’t stop making sure she’s fed and taken care of. Sarah’s writing is vivid and whimsical. An absolute treat of a book.”

Ride with Me by Simone Soltani

“Stella doesn’t expect to wake up in Vegas with a ring on her finger and a handsome Formula 1 driver in the bed next to her, but she sure does make the most of it in this fake dating, marriage of convenience romp of a romance.

“Simone Soltani has a knack for quick, addictive writing that yanks you right into the story. I loved watching Stella open herself up to the idea of love, even though she’s been hurt in the past. Thomas is her perfect match in every way. If you like kicking your feet and twirling your hair, this is the book for you.”

Book Boyfriend by Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka

“My first experience with real-life married authors Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka was the achingly vulnerable masterpiece Do I Know You? Needless to say, I was eager to gobble up Book Boyfriend.

“Newly single and craving connection, Jennifer travels to an immersive fan experience for her favourite romantasy series. The last person she expects to see there is Scott, her work nemesis. But when they keep getting partnered together for convention activities, sparks begin to fly.

“Book Boyfriend is a deliciously fun romance for every person who has ever wished they could pluck their favourite her from between the pages. Truly, a perfect Valentine’s day read.”
