Shoppers have begged the frozen food store to ‘never change’ the recipe

Iceland shoppers are claiming that a dish being sold in stores could be “better than the chippy”, and made at home in under 10 minutes. Some went so far as to tell the supermarket not to “ever change” the recipe, as it was “so tasty”.

Available online for £2.95, Iceland sells its own branded version of Lamb Doner Grillsteaks in packs of four. Iceland bosses wrote in the product description that it adds “doner-style seasoning” to the lamb grillsteaks, giving them a twist on the classic.

The packaging shows that these meaty dishes can be pan-fried or grilled from frozen in about 10 minutes. The quickest way to get them ready is to use an air fryer, cooking for up to eight minutes at 180°C and turning halfway through.

Online shoppers can leave product reviews for Iceland items they have purchased. Out of eight reviews, these steaks have an average score of 4.5 stars out of five.

One shopper said: “Wish I could give these six stars. A really good doner taste to the lamb burgers, went perfectly with a pitta bread and salad. Absolutely will purchase again.”

Another claimed it was “better than the donner meat from the chippy”. A third person commented: “Great [for a] quick cook with a nice doner taste. [Goes] great with mayo or chutney.”

Someone else put: “We love these products, the taste is amazing. Don’t ever change [it] because it’s OK as it is.” One more said: “Great love 5he so tasty been after them for ages, so glad I got them [and I] will be getting more

The only review that did not award five stars was a three-star verdict, but it had no comments explaining why it was so poor compared to others. Iceland has lots of options on its website, and a service to book home deliveries, here.

One thing to note is that each of these flavoured steaks contains 1.2g of salt once cooked, according to the nutritional information. The NHS suggests on its website that adults in the UK should have no more than 6g of salt a day (about the same as one level teaspoon).

Eating too much salt can cause high blood pressure, which increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes. If your blood pressure is too high, it puts extra strain on your blood vessels, heart and other organs, such as your brain, kidneys and eyes.

Lifestyle changes and blood pressure medicines can help you stay healthy. You can get more information and advice about high blood pressure from Blood Pressure UK or the British Heart Foundation.
