A food blogger visited Harrods’ Food Hall recently and paid £150 for a viral melon – but people cannot get past his strange method of eating it
We all like to treat ourselves to a nice meal out every now and again, or get ourselves something extra tasty at the supermarket when pay day comes around.
And one man decided to spend a cool £150 melon from Harrods which is going viral, but was it worth it?
A food lover called Carmie Sellitto, who often reviews restaurants around London and recently spent £75 on Harrods grapes, decided to see if the viral melon is worth the money. The posh treat is sold in Harrods Foods Hall, Knightsbridge, London, and is called ‘Japanese Crown Melon’.
It comes in a stunning black and gold box which has red velvet inside to protect the expensive fruit. It is also wrapped in tissue which Carmie dubbed as the melon’s ‘dressing gown’. Influencer Carmie, who has 275,000 followers on Instagram, was surprised by how heavy the melon was upon opening it.
Observing the giant fruit after cutting it in half, he said: “Why does it look like that, it looks so juicy. I can’t believe I spent £150 on a melon.”
Unusually, Carmie ate one half of the melon with his hands – and did not even scrap out the pips. He even munched on some of the skin. Carmie said: “It’s quite chewy. Omg it’s so refreshing.”
The viral sensation, better known as @touchdaylight online, added: “Wow. Omg that is the tastiest melon I have ever eaten in my life.” He joked that he would moved to Japan just to be able to eat it all the time, and also said he would probably pay £150 for it again.
“Juiciest melon I’ve ever seen,” one commented on the video. But others could not get passed how much Carmie spent and others could not believe how. “Bro you must have more money the sense to spend £150 on that,” wrote one.
Another added: “Why is he eating it like this? For £150 I’d eat it properly.”
“I never saw anyone eat a melon like that,” added another. “Your supposed to take the middle out and peel the skin,” noted someone else.
“You’re not meant to eat the skin,” said another. Carmie replied: “For £150 I’m eating the skin.” “Is this your first encounter with a melon,” commented Harrods.
One other noted: “£150 you’re a melon. You could have got two days worth of Tesco shopping for that.” While someone else said: “I know it’s £150 …, but we still don’t eat the skin bro ….. it’s not wasting it’s still logic.”
Carmie also recently tried the £14 truffle mac and cheese buttermilk chicken box from Harrods. Reviewing this, he said: “The best £14 I’ve ever spent”. He also tried the viral £48 Harrods strawberries, £75 Harrods grapes, and the best rated restaurant in London.
