The app user was left gobsmacked after visiting a branch of Gail’s Bakery in Central London where she was handed three bags full of breads, pastries and salads
A Too Good To Go fan has hailed her “best ever” bag after spending £5 on food with a retail value of a staggering £100.
Too Good To Go is an app which allows supermarkets, stores, cafes and restaurants to sell food that is close to its sell-by or use-by dates and would otherwise have gone to waste for reduced prices. The bags are called surprise bags as you don’t know what you are getting when you order.
Taking to TikTok to showcase her haul, the happy shopper said her success was the result of a trip to branch of Gail’s Bakery in Central London. “This is by far the best Too Good To Go bag I’ve ever bought,” she declared. “Gail’s can be a bit hit and miss but this was a BIG hit.”
Detailing her bargain, she explained in her video: “I got incredibly lucky – they gave me three whole bags as they’d had a particularly quiet day. The bread selection was two of the white San Francisco sourdough loafs (worth £4.60 each), a garlic and rosemary focaccia (£3.30) and four brown sour dough loaves (£4.60 each).”
The woman was equally as impressed with pastries, meanwhile, sharing footage of her two butter croissants (£2.65 each) and an impressive eight blueberry and custard brioche buns (£4.10 each). Four chocolate muffins and a blueberry one followed (£3.30 each) before she went on to detail the refrigerated goods too.
These came in the form of three mango, passionfruit and chia seed pots (£4.30 each), two beetroot, lentil and goat’s cheese salads (£6.80 each) and one spelt, cauliflower and ferments salad (£6.80).
“I shared this enormous haul with my family and friends and filled up my freezer too,” the woman said in delight, adding that the total value of the food was in fact £118.80.
One TikTok user praised in response: “You hit the bread jackpot!” A second added: “All those sourdough loaves to freeze! I’m very jealous of you!”
A third pondered: “I am so glad that Too Good to Go exists. Imagine how much food has been saved.” Whilst a fourth admitted: “Looks delicious and definitely worth £5 – but the fact this would cost over £100 normally is insane.”
Last month, fans of Too Good To Go learned they can now have boxes of surplus food delivered straight to their door. The popular app has today launched Too Good To Go Food Parcels in addition to their ‘surprise bags’ in store.
The company says the new Food Parcels will come from larger-scale manufacturers and will include products that are “perfectly good” but won’t go to supermarkets due to minor issues like damaged labels or packaging changes. Products included in the parcels will include ambient items such as coffee, tea, snacks, soups, sauces, pasta, and confectionery.
