Spring is the prime time to give your home a bit of a makeover, and I managed to completely revamp my bedroom with six brand new homeware buys that cost me less than £45
I don’t know about you, but as soon as spring hits, I find myself wanting to give my home a refresh. Now there’s a glimmer of sunshine in the air and some warmer temperatures hitting, I want out with the old and in with the new, and my bedroom seemed like a great place to start.
However, I didn’t want to splurge on big, expensive buys; instead I was looking for cost-effective, affordable pieces that would make an impact without bankrupting me, which is why I headed to OHS. Known for its budget-friendly homeware buys that are still playful and dopamine inducing – my favourite kind – it was an obvious choice, and thanks to its current sale, I managed to makeover my bedroom for just £42.50.
Next’s ‘fabulous’ string lights transform gardens into a ‘Mediterranean courtyard’
Dunelm’s ‘really comfortable’ 5-star rated sofa bed is ideal for hosting guests over Easter
I picked up six new items that instantly elevated my room and brought some colour and life back into it ready for spring, the most expensive of which was just £12. Even my dog got some fresh new bedding, which she was more than happy with.
Here’s everything I used to transform my home:
One of the easiest ways you to instantly uplift a bedroom is with new bedding, and this colourful tropical print immediately brightened up the space. The Tropical Foliage Duvet Cover Set is reversible, with a darker print on the other side, but I love how fresh and crisp the white and green feels against the darker walls.
It’s also a great alternative to some similar but pricier styles, like the Yellow Kew Garden 600 Thread Count Sateen Duvet Set which is priced between £105-£145 at Next. The Tahiti Green Duvet Cover and Pillowcase Set is much more affordable at Dunelm, but comes in at more than £20 more expensive than the OHS set.
Obviously no bed is complete without some scatter cushions and I wanted to bring some feminine, dopamine-inducing colours into the room. The darker pink in the Scallop Piped Edge Bolster Pillow combined with the lighter pink shades in the Matte Velvet Scallop Edge Cushion Covers was just the lift the room needed.
You can also pick up the cushions in plenty of other colours, like lilac, mint green and cream if you prefer something more neutral and understated, although it’s worth noting they don’t come with cushion pads, so you’ll need to buy your own. If it’s not already apparent, I love a bright colour, so it was a given that I had to pick up the Fluffy Round Calming Pet Bed in pink, although it also comes in grey and brown.
The finishing touch to the room was a colourful and fun towel, with the Sardine Striped Beach Towel only priced at £3 and pulling both the pink and green from the room together. It comes in so many different designs, and although they’re obviously great for holidays by the pool, I love a beach towel for the bathroom too as they’re usually larger and more fun than regular towels.
These are slightly thinner than your usual dense, fluffy bath towels, but they’re great for after a quick shower, or just using them as a burst of colour in your bathroom. Popping them at the end of my bed makes me feel like I’m staying in a fancy hotel too, which is always nice.
An honourable mention has to go to the Rechargeable Table Lamp, which didn’t make its way into my bedroom but has been a godsend for brightening up my gloomy hallway. There are no easily accessible sockets in the hall, which means I either have to be in the dark or with the overhead light on – something I try to avoid at all costs.
The cordless lamp, however, simply charges up via a USB cable, then can be sat on the table without tripping over wires. You turn it on and off with a simple touch, and it has three different light colours to cycle through, as well as a long-touch dimmer that lets you set the ambiance perfectly.
And just like that, for just £42.50 I’ve successfully revamped not one but two spaces in my flat without breaking the bank.
