A man drove for four hours to Yorkshire to buy the ‘world’s most expensive’ chocolate Easter egg, the handmade Betty’s Grand Easter Egg from Betty’s Tea Room – and it was even bigger than he thought
A man went on a mission to find the ‘world’s most expensive’ chocolate Easter egg, and managed to find it in Yorkshire.
YouTube and TikTok creator Robbie, known online as megarobbieknox, is known to his thousands of followers for buying expensive products before comparing them to their cheaper alternatives.
As Easter comes closer, Robbie claims to have bought the world’s most expensive chocolate Easter egg to try to see if it’s worth the money. While you might think you’d find it in stores like Harrods, it’s actually available in Yorkshire.
“I’m in Harrogate in Yorkshire and behind me is Betty’s Tea Room that makes the world’s most expensive Easter egg. Let’s buy it and then eat it,” he said at the start of the TikTok video.
“I got up at 4am to get here, I drove from Norwich to Harrogate to be here when the shop opens, so hopefully it’s gonna be nice. Otherwise, it’s an absolute waste of time and money.”
He went on to say that while there might be other Easter eggs in the world that are more expensive, he said this is the world’s most expensive chocolate Easter egg that he could find that can be bought outright.
Robbie then went into the Tea Room to pick up the chocolate egg, which he had pre-booked in advance. The cashier went behind the back before rolling out a large box on a wheeled trolley.
“I don’t think I’ve fully appreciated just how big it was gonna be, but it’s absolutely massive. I’ve not seen it, it’s in this box, but it weight five and a half kilograms, or just under, which is quite a lot,” Robbie said as he carried the box to his car.
He then packed it into his car before driving home to Norwich to open and taste the egg. As he opened the box, along with his friend Stevie, they were met with a layer of hey that was protecting the egg from any damage.
“Okay it’s beautiful,” Robbie said as he unveiled the large chocolate egg which had been decorated with pink, purple, and white flowers. He put it on the table, stabilising it with with its built-in chocolate stand, showing just how big and grandiose the egg was.
“It’s ridiculous,” Stevie said when looking at it. “It’s so unnecessary. I can’t think of a situation beyond people who wanna make YouTube videos about it that this is needed.”
How much did it cost?
Robbie went on to explain that the egg was called ‘Betty’s Grand Easter Egg’ and said he believes it’s the most expensive Easter Egg in the world, revealing the handmade egg cost him a whopping £395.
“It’s over half a metre tall, it’s got five kilograms of Grand Cru Swiss chocolate,” Robbie said. “If you were to eat this entire egg, it would have, it has 31,000 calories, meaning it could keep the average man sustained for 15 days.”
While the egg looks stunning, what did it taste like? After smashing the egg into the wooden table, they decided to have a taste of the almost £400 chocolate egg.
“It’s quite think,” Robbie said as she held up a big piece before snapping of a smaller piece to taste. “That’s very nice.”
As they moved on to the flowers, Stevie said it tasted ‘a bit like iced gems’ before they both moved back onto the chocolate.
“I like the sort of marble-y effect of the chocolate,” Robbie said, to which Stevie said: “Oh, everything about it is amazing, genuinely.”
