Emergency services raced to a Scottish village on Saturday afternoon after dramatic blaze engulfed the derelict church, with photos showing the building almost completely destroyed
Dramatic images have captured a fire ripping through a church in a Scottish village. as firefighters raced to tackle the blaze on Saturday afternoon.
The emergency services were alerted to the blaze on Main Street in Camelon, Falkirk, at around 3.30pm on Saturday, February 14. Firefighters in full protective gear can be seen dousing the crumbling building with water, whilst at least two fire engines are parked at the side of the road and more crew members stand by.
Shocking photos of the blaze seem to show the church almost completely destroyed. Bright, fierce flames can be seen tearing through the building as smoke fills the sky.
Another image taken from above shows the roof entirely collapsed, revealing the charred, blackened interior now exposed to the elements. Only the front façade appears to have remained somewhat intact, reports the Daily Record.
The fire has engulfed St John’s Church, a derelict and permanently closed building. Teams from Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service rushed to the scene and remain there this evening.
No one has been injured, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed, but the cause of the fire is still unknown. Diversions have been set up on Hamilton Street and both drivers and pedestrians are being advised to avoid the area.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland stated: “Main Street, Camelon is closed following a fire, reported at around 3.30pm on Saturday, 14 February. Diversions are in place along Hamilton Street. Please avoid the area.”
A representative from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service added: “We received a call at 3:15pm on Saturday, February 14 to a derelict church on fire. Four appliances and a high-reach appliance were dispatched. We remain in attendance.”
