The London Fire Brigade said the fire on High Road in Wood Green has affected two adjoining buildings, with 15 people led to safety and two taken to hospital for smoke inhalation. The blaze broke out near Turnpike Lane tube station.
A massive blaze in North London required twelve fire engines and around 80 firefighters to tackle the inferno.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) confirmed the fire broke out on High Road in Wood Green, engulfing two adjoining mixed-use buildings close to Turnpike Lane tube station.
“The fire is now under control but firefighters will remain on scene through the night working to fully extinguish the fire,” the LFB said in a statement.
The LFB received the first of 25 calls about the fire at 21.25pm on Monday, July 6 and the blaze was brought under control by around midnight.
Firefighters were dispatched from Hornsey, Tottenham, Southgate, Holloway and neighbouring fire stations to tackle the emergency.
15 residents were safely evacuated from the affected buildings, while two people were rushed to hospital by the London Ambulance Service after suffering from smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire currently remains unclear.
Road closures are still in effect on High Road near its junction with Turnpike Lane, with the LFB urging members of the public to steer clear of the area and warning that significant traffic disruption should be expected.
