House of Fraser is closing one of its department stores next year, leaving shoppers gutted.
The iconic retailer will shut its branch in Plymouth in March 2026, with signs outside the store advertising 20% off stock as part of its closing down sale.
The store has been due to close in 2018 after House of Fraser collapsed into administration but it was saved after Sports Direct rescued the chain for £90million.
The building has now been listed for sale for £3million with Vickery Holman, a commercial property agent. This store is one of only 12 House of Fraser stores left in the UK after the Bristol site closed last year.
Devastated shoppers have taken to social media to comment on the closure. One person said: “So many happy memories from my childhood and teenage years in this store – would come here with my much loved family who are all now gone – sad times.”
Another said: “There goes the only decent department stores we had left and one of the best baby changing stations! Genuinely gutted.” A third person commented: “Another boarded up shop.”
The Mirror has contacted Frasers Group for comment. In more retail news, Cardzone has launched a huge sale in one of its stores ahead of this branch closing down next month.
This particular store is located in the Didcot Shopping Centre in Oxfordshire and will be closing on January 10, 2026. According to the Oxford Mail, there are signs in the window of the shop, confirming its last day.
A sign facing the street reads: “Store closing. Everything must go. This store will be closing on Saturday, January 10, 2026.”
The local paper reports that items are being reduced by up to 50% to clear the remaining stock before the store shuts. Cardzone is a family-owned business that was established in 2005 and it now has around 150 stores across the UK.
River Island is set to close 33 stores next month as part of previously announced restructure. The closures include locations in major cities such as Edinburgh, Leeds, Oxford, Brighton and Perth.
The stores will close by the end of January. River Island has already closed some stores this year, including branches in Chesterfield, Corby and Omagh, Northern Ireland. These stores were separate to the January closures.
Poundland has announced a further 14 stores will close by early February. This is on top of the 19 that were previously confirmed to shut over coming months.
Poundland had shut 57 stores by the end of September as part of a major restructure, after being sold to investment firm Gordon Brothers for £1.
