A vandal was caught on CCTV smashing up a popular Turkish restaurant in Doncaster, Yorkshire, before throwing paint across the building as police launch an investigation

CCTV shows moment Turkish restaurant vandalised by thug with a hammer

Police have launched an appeal after a masked yob was captured smashing five windows of a family-owned restaurant with a hammer before covering the building in paint.

The vandal was seen on CCTV carrying out the senseless attack on the Antep Bar and Grill in Doncaster, Yorkshire, in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Footage of a thug, who appears to be hiding their face behind a bike helmet, using the weapon to destroy the popular Turkish eatery has been shared online.

The local business is managed by husband and wife Dektas and Satma Polat, 54 and 50. They were alerted to the damage hours after, and spent more than three hours cleaning up the storefront and the road outside.

The couple, from Turkey, have lived in the UK for 33 years, raising two children here, aged 27 and 25. They say they have been left devastated by the attack as the hunt for the culprit begins.

Satma said: “I love England. I love Doncaster. This shop is home to a friendly team. So I don’t know who would come and break the windows.”

The mum-of-two added that the windows alone will cost around £1,700 to repair after every single one on the restaurant’s facade was smashed. The restaurant issued a statement on social media reading: “We’re really saddened and disappointed to share that our restaurant was targeted last night, with windows smashed and paint thrown over the front.

“We work incredibly hard to build something positive for the community, so it’s genuinely upsetting to see this happen. It’s also a real shame that local businesses on our street have had to deal with a series of incidents like this over the past year.

“As a result, we’ll be closed until later today while we carry out repairs and make the place safe again. If anyone saw anything or has any information at all, please reach out to us directly.

“We appreciate all the support as always and hope to be back open very soon. We won’t let horrible ‘people’ like this stop what we do.”

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “At 2.46am on Wednesday 6 May we received reports of criminal damage at a premises on Nether Hall Road, Doncaster.

“It is reported that a man smashed five windows at the premises with a hammer before leaving the scene. Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information that could aid the investigation is asked to get in touch online or by calling 101, quoting incident number 87 of May 6, 2026.”
