A group of labourers in Majorca raised the alarm after spotting the British man’s body hidden in bushes as they worked in the area – sparking an investigation by police

Police have launched an investigation into the death of a British man whose “naked” body was found on a waste ground in Majorca.

Officers on the island confirmed his nationality and are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine their next move. The horror discovery occurred around midday yesterday after a group of labourers spotted the man’s body hidden in bushes while they were working in the area. According to local reports, the man, thought to be 64-years-old, was lying lifeless on his back with no clothes on.

He was discovered near a stunning cove beach in the southeast of Majorca called Cala Lombards, which was cordoned off by police. Well-placed sources said today there were no evident signs of violence on the man’s body, or at the scene, but they were not ruling out any possible scenario out until after the post-mortem.

The autopsy is due to take place later today at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Palma. The Civil Guard, which is the police force investigating, confirmed today: “The dead man has been identified as a British national. The alarm was raised yesterday afternoon by a worker in the area around midday yesterday. The area in question is Cala Llombards in the municipality of Santanyi.”

The force spokesman said he wasn’t able to confirm local reports the dead man was stark naked when he was found. He added: “It is something that the autopsy will have to confirm but we understand he was 64 years old.”

Detectives are yet to comment on whether he was a tourist holidaying in Majorca or lives on the island, but he is believed to be a local resident. A witness living close to the area where the Brit was found dead said he thought he had seen the man walking alone in the area before yesterday’s grim discovery.
