Police rushed to Watermead Country Park in Leicestershire after reports a body had been discovered
An investigation has been launched after a body was discovered in the water at a popular beauty spot with police treating the death as “unexplained”.
Emergency services swarmed the 350-acre Watermead Country Park in Leicestershire on Saturday (July 4) after the discovery was made.
Leicestershire Police, along with paramedics from East Midlands Ambulance Service, attended the scene after receiving the call at around 2.28pm.
The man’s body was quickly pulled from the water and, despite the best efforts of first responders, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene, reports Leicestershire Live.
The force says the death is being treated as unexplained while officers continue to conduct enquiries to establish the circumstances of the incident. At this stage, the man’s identity or age has not been publicly released.
Watermead County Park, on the outskirts of Leicester, is a renowned nature reserve, popular for walkers, cyclists, anglers and families. Featuring a network of more than 12 lakes and sprawling woodlands from former gravel pits, it attracts thousands of visitors every year.
A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: “Police received a call at 2.28pm today (Saturday 4 July) regarding a report of a body in the water at Watermead Country Park.
“Officers attended at the location and the body of a man was removed a short time after.
“Colleagues from East Midlands Ambulance also attended and the man was later pronounced deceased at the scene. The death is being treated as unexplained as enquiries continue.”
