Home Bargains has called on shoppers to make a dash to its stores this week as temperatures continue to climb across the UK – warning that some of its most sought-after summer items “are not going to last”.
As Brits brace themselves for another heatwave, the discount retailer posted images online revealing shelves brimming with summer must-haves, including paddling pools, BBQs, fans and outdoor toys.
However, the chain has cautioned that customers will need to act fast if they hope to snap up the bargains before stocks run dry. In the post shared on Instagram, Home Bargains wrote: “Everything you need for the heatwave is at Home Bargains right now and it is NOT going to last.”
The retailer confirmed that paddling pools start from £3.99, BBQs from £2.49, fans from £9.99, and outdoor toys from just 99p. The post continued: “You already know how fast the fans and pools go every year. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.”
While plenty of shoppers were quick to applaud the deals, others hit out, claiming their nearest branches looked nothing like the fully stocked displays pictured online.
One disgruntled customer revealed they had been travelling across several locations in a bid to track down popular items from the retailer’s Mrs Hinch range.
They wrote: “Me and my friends have been driving all over the North West for your Mrs Hinch tealight holders and hurricane candle holders.”
The shopper revealed they had even made trips to York and North Wales in search of stock, yet still returned empty-handed. Another disappointed customer commented: “Definitely didn’t look like that at Orpington today.”
Elsewhere, another shopper claimed shelves at their local branch in Banbridge, County Down, were frequently left bare despite nationwide restocking announcements, adding: “Very disappointing.”
Despite the frustration, large numbers of shoppers are still expected to descend on stores this week as temperatures continue to rise and demand for cooling products reaches fever pitch.
Each summer, fans, paddling pools and portable cooling gadgets become some of the fastest-flying items off the shelves at UK retailers whenever a heatwave strikes.
With forecasters tipping more sweltering conditions ahead, shoppers are already being advised not to leave it too late if they’re hoping to keep cool this summer.
