Rusty the dog had been chained up in a shack in Thailand before being rescued and taken to England and clearly enjoyed his first experience getting out into the snow
This is the touching moment a dog rescued from being chained up in a shack in the Thai jungle walked on snow in England for the first time.
Pooch Rusty had been chained up for most of his life and was rescued then brought to England where he enjoyed a healthy dusting of snow outside his new home. Clearly nervous at first, Rusty took a moment to acclimatise himself to the blanket of white outside the home before slowly taking steps into the snow.
A clip of Rusty’s first experience in taking to the snow was filmed by his owner but was uploaded to social media by animal rescuer Niall Harbison who works in Thailand. In the video, Rusty tentatively taking to the snow before reacting with delight at the opportunity to play in the white stuff with his friend.
The pooch was seen happily wagging his tail and jumping in the snow while walking around the garden. Rusty seemed somewhat unsure about how to take in the new experience at first before racing around the garden leaving pawprints in the snow.
Niall said in a series of X posts on X/Twitter on Sunday: “In July rescued Rusty from a short chain under a shack in the jungle in Thailand. We found him a home in England.
“Today he saw snow for the snow for the first time in his life and it was just brilliant. He wasn’t sure at first. Rusty is one of the gentlest souls we’ve ever had. A big softie.
“Maybe with his mum’s help. Imagine being chained up your whole life. You find the dream family then this surprise. The reason I can handle so much pain saving the dogs? Videos like this right here. My heart is full. Well done Rusty. Just beautiful. I can’t think of a dog who deserves it more than you.”
Since being shared on X/Twitter, the series of clips showing Rusty’s first adventure in the snow has been seen more than 150,000 times. The five-part thread also received more than 50,000 likes.
According to Niall’s charity Happy Doggo’s website, its mission is to improve the lives of street dogs in Thailand and across the world. It added donations supported life-saving sterilization, feeding and medical treatments for the dogs.
The website also features a section where several dogs are up for adoption. To view the Happy Doggo’s website, click here.
There are millions of stray dogs that are believed to live on the streets of Thailand. According to the animal welfare group Four Paws, reasons for why there are so many stray dogs includes limited spay and neuter opportunities in many communities as well as kind acts of being given food from strangers which boosts their numbers further.
