For many parents, watching their teen’s confidence slip away due to breakouts can be heartbreaking – but a dermatologically-tested skincare designed for blemish-prone skin has been proving a solution
When spots and acne develop on our faces and body without warning, it can really take a toll on our confidence. But especially for teens, who have to battle exam stress, societal pressures, hormonal changes and more alongside these painful, inflamed and pretty obvious sores.
January particularly can prove especially challenging with mock exams, new year expectations and winter-related stress, all of which typically manifest first in our skin.
To help combat this, parents are turning to dermatologically-tested skincare that addresses both spots and the scarring they can leave behind. One particular brand that has been causing quite a buzz amongst parents is 47 Skin, which is recognised for its clinically-tested formulations which have been created to support stressed, blemish-prone teenage skin without being overly aggressive.
47 Skin founder Nic knows firsthand the effect having spots and blemishes can have on confidence. In a recent interview with The Mirror, he shared the reason behind launching the business: “I remember times where I’d get ready for a night out, then look in the mirror and go, ‘I can’t go out tonight because I’ve got big spots and blemishes’.
“And then I literally wouldn’t go out. With nights out where they’d photograph the clubs and then upload it on Facebook the next day, I really didn’t like the way my skin looked.

The Anti-Blemish & Scar Repair Serum has racked up 5,000 five star reviews.
“This really started to impact me. Then I went to my first graduate job coming out of university and I always thought I’d take my career super seriously. I walked into a buyer meeting and the buyer turned to me and said, ‘Oh I can see they’ve sent a baby to do their bidding’ – referring to the fact that I had spots and blemishes on my face. It completely knocked my confidence.”
His life-changing moment, reports Wales Online, arrived when his nan sent him a package containing a small pot of cream, which she described as ‘a local formulation’.
“I was shocked that my skin had cleared within four days, but part of me still thought, well, they’ll come back, right? I continued to use it. The spots and blemishes never came back. My skin was soft and hydrated and kind of firm. It just completely transformed the condition of my skin.”
The scientific breakthrough behind 47 Skin products lies in its distinctive ingredient, Silver Chitoderm. Nic elaborates: “Silver is naturally antibacterial and antimicrobial. The Chitoderm, which is bonded to the silver, is mucoadhesive, which means it’s sticky. Effectively, if the bacteria comes onto your face, the Silver Chitoderm will stick to the bacteria and the silver will kill it. As long as you’ve got the serum on or any of the products, then you’ve got an antibacterial shield on your skin.”
Parents can now snap up a variety of products from the website to aid their teenagers, with special bundles also on offer.
Leading the pack is the brand’s top-seller, the Anti-Blemish and Scar Repair Serum, priced from £29 and scaling up to £195, depending on the size of the bottle chosen by shoppers.
Boasting the ability to ‘kill 99.9% of blemish causing bacteria’, whilst also aiding in reducing the visibility of post-blemish pigmentation, the serum is touted to soothe inflammation and lock in moisture, leaving skin looking soft, plump and radiant.
For optimal results, it’s recommended to apply one to two pumps morning and evening after cleansing, gently smoothing it over the entire face and neck.
Its Anti-Blemish and Scar Repair Everyday Cleanser is another good option for any skincare routine. It retails at £29 for 150ml and £49 for 300ml. This cleanser ‘promotes clearer skin’ and can also help diminish the appearance of blemish marks, without stripping away natural oils, as per the brand’s claims.
Thanks to its Eucalyptus content, it’s said to be non-irritating and smells ‘incredible’. Then there’s the Anti-Blemish and Scar Repair Silver Mask, priced at £24 for 30ml and £39 for 60ml, which promises to transform skin in under 30 minutes, according to the brand.
This is attributed to its peel-off design, expertly crafted to soothe, brighten and reduce redness and inflammation. Simply apply it, let it dry and then peel away for the best results.
For those keen to take their skincare routine a step further, there are also bundles on offer, such as the Complete Routine Bundle, reduced to £222 from £247 (£199.80 for subscribers). This bundle comes with eight different products, including an Everyday Cleanser (150ml) to eliminate impurities and unclog pores, a BHA exfoliant (100ml) to clear pores, a Silver Mask, and a Blue Clay Mask.
The bundle also includes a Super Hydrating Elixir (50ml) to moisturise the skin, a Serum (30ml) designed to diminish spots, blemishes and ‘stubborn marks’, a lightweight, oil-free Daily Moisturiser (60ml), and finally, a Daily SPF 30 to shield skin against UVA/UVB rays.
If 47 Skin doesn’t quite fit the bill, there are plenty of other skincare brands available. For instance, the No7 The Ultimate Skincare Collection Gift Set is now £35, down from £85, at Boots.
This set includes a variety of the brand’s best-selling products, such as a No7 Protect and Perfect Intense Advanced Dual Action Cleansing water to remove makeup and daily build-up, 30 No7 Biodegradable Cleansing Wipes, and a mini No7 Toning Water, among others.
An alternative choice is the slightly more expensive Clinique Skincare Bestsellers Bundle, priced at £101 on LookFantastic. This trio of skincare essentials includes the brand’s Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm, a Moisture Surge 100 Hour Auto-Replenishing Hydrator gel moisturiser, and finally, an All About Eyes Eye Cream.
Although it seems teens and their parents have been left impressed and happier after trying out the 47 Skin range, with glowing reviews decorating its website. One mum, Becky, shared: “As a mum, it’s heartbreaking when you know that they don’t want to be in these family pictures, which ultimately are memories forever. When my daughter was going through the tough breakouts and congestion, you could just see that she was a shadow of her former self. And now she’s back.”
Another parent, Anchal, raved: “The products are amazing, I ordered them for my teen daughter and honestly we are not going back.”
Over on Trustpilot another remarked: “My teen had cystic acne on his back with bad scarring. We ordered the trial size first, a star off as only lasted three days, but we saw a reduction in inflammation. So went ahead with the next size up, a month later the acne has cleared up and scars are fading.
“This is after four months of anti-biotics which we’ve stopped and prescription cream that didn’t work. A month later and still clear. Amazing!”
Now, it’s not a magical solution to all spots, as one person experienced. They said: “Acne has improved and scarring repair is noticeably quicker. Still get some cystic acne but definitely fewer and not as big.”
On the whole, the majority were delighted with 47 Skin’s results, as parent Andrew shared: “I bought 47 Skin for my daughter after she experienced teen breakouts. The results are excellent!”
