Amy Ekin, 21, has made a sweet promise to her boyfriend, Zak Forsyth, who is in a coma in Thailand after being involved in a serious crash while riding a scooter
The girlfriend of a British man fighting for his life after a horror crash on holiday has made him a promise before jetting off to Thailand to be by his side.
Zak Forsyth, 21, from Huyton, Merseyside, had been on holiday with his friends when the tragedy unfolded. His girlfriend Amy Ekin, 21, said he was on his way back from an outing and sober while riding the scooter when he was involved in a crash.
Zak was taken to hospital by the driver of the car after the crash left him with a bleed on the brain, as well as a broken nose, jaw, ankle and arm. He is now in a coma and all of his hospital and treatment costs must be paid for by his family as he had no medical or travel insurance while on the trip.

The family have been able to put Zak into surgery, but Amy says they will still need more to support him going forward. She said: “We’ve put a £5,000 deposit down for his surgery, he’s in a coma. We’ve got a fundraiser going, we just need as much help as possible at the moment.”
The fundraiser, which has a goal of £20,000 has received more than £18,000 in donations for Zak’s treatment so far.
Amy, a hairdresser, from Prescot, Merseyside, who is set to fly to Thailand to be with Zak on Monday, vowed to wait by his bedside until he can return to the UK with her.
Amy told the Daily Mail: ‘I am not coming home until he comes home with me. So, if we’ve got to stay over there for three months, four months, until he’s able to fly, boat, whatever – that’s what I’m going to do.” She added: “Our whole life has been put on hold, everything. I can’t even sleep, I just want him to be OK.”
The couple are set to mark their second anniversary next week – and had plans to move to Australia together in the coming months.
Zak’s mum Mel McCourt, 47, also from Huyton, added: “We need as much help as we can to get him home.” In a statement shared on her Instagram page, Amy added: “This has been sudden and devastating, and like so many people, we never imagined something like this could happen to us. Our lives have been turned upside down in ways we never could have prepared for.
“Time is critical, and every moment matters in ensuring he continues to receive the care he desperately needs and in getting his loved ones to his side.
“It is incredibly humbling and difficult to have to ask others for financial help, something we never thought we would need to do. But right now, our only focus is doing everything possible to support him and give him the best chance to keep fighting.
“Any money raised will go directly toward Zak’s medical expenses, as well as urgent travel costs for me and his family so we can be with him during this incredibly difficult time. Any donation, no matter how big or small, will make a difference and help give him the support and care he needs.”
